MINT TOY MUSEUM x PERANAKAN MUSEUM
Bf and I decided to bring his baby bro out.. to let him chill and get away from the stress of education in Singapore.
Hahaha. Our plan failed cos we brought him to museums to learn stuff and we thought the toy museum would be fun but it's more of a gallery..
Don't even know who this toy is. Amelia Earheart?
Anywhere is a place for photoshoot. LOL. The words of a camwhore.
This doll is freaky.
Our OOTDs. ( I cannot tahan my bf's tote bag. I think I'm not so liberal after all.)
Then we headed for lunch at
The Soup Spoon Union! I really enjoy dining there cos of the ambiance and the wide food selection. Really so much food choices that I have to go over the menu repeatedly to decide what I want! In the end I settled for their promo set meal cos it was cheap! But... I can't remember the price now. Perhaps like $10.90 for burger and soup? Then the HK Milk Tea I had was so so only but they claimed that it was a chef favourite or something on the menu. Boo. $3++ gone.
This was the Nutella Milk Shake.. It was so thick and rich.
Bf loves his onions.. Hahaha
This was what I had. I think it was not worth the price. McDonald's cheeseburger tasted better and more value for money too. The beef had lots of tendons in it and wasn't very flavorful at all.
Next stop was the Peranakan Museum!
It was a special day there so we got in free but I saw the sign that stated free entry for all Singaporeans.
The weather soooo hot.
Lots of people who've just met me for the first time usually go. "Where are you from?" or "Are you local?"
The answer is ... Yes! I am Singaporean, my IC states I am Chinese though I am a quarter Baba (of Chinese descent) Peranakan which has given me my more 'exotic' look. lol
So, What makes a person a Peranakan?
Well back when Singapore was a kampong there were inter-racial marriages among the traders who visited Singapore there are different types of Peranakans of different racial lineages. It's usually a cross between asian and an ang moh.. so perhaps we are also Eurasian? I'm not too sure. Though my grandma was a Nonya (used to refer to a female Baba Peranakan. Men were also known as Baba.). She passed when I was 10 and I miss her cooking dearly. I wish I had learned the recipes from her!!
The Peranakan Museum was a lot more interactive than the MINT Toy Musuem. The displays were more vibrant and of course the place was much larger and well maintained.
When I saw all the portraits I was like.. Hey. Do you need my photo taken and blown up onto the wall too? HAHA. I need to stop living in my own world.
I'd like one of these for my wedding!
This phone is damn chic!!
Crazy full walled graffiti on the building next to the Peranakan Musuem!!
Overall I felt that the Peranakan Museum was really worth visiting because it's free or really cheap to enter and there is a lot to learn. Even for myself! There was much I didn't know. They also sold recipe books which I might return to purchase because Peranakan food is really awesome. Better than the best chicken rice out there!!
I'd rate it a 4.5/5.
As for the MINT Toy Museum,
I'd rate it a 2/5
I bought a Groupon which alr made it cheaper to enter. But I still feel that the displays do not make your money's worth unless you really like looking at old vintage toys.
