Michelle Kwan

If you haven't already known by now, ice skating legend Michelle Kwan actually came to Singapore to commemorate the opening ceremony of the synthetic rink at MBS.
This is an actual photo of her skating at a rink in Singapore.
I was so caught up in my exams that I only knew she was coming here the night before her performance and I did not see her perform! I'm really quite pissed that I missed a chance to see her skate live. She's in bloody Singapore for god's sake.
Missing out on meeting her has just reminded me how much of an inspiration she is. She's such a successful ice skater and it's through countless failures and huge sacrifices that she is who she is today. The worse thing of all is that she had to pull out from the last chance she could compete in the Winter Olympics due to training injuries... AND IT WAS ON MY BIRTHDAY.
Somehow I feel intertwined with her bad luck..
My idol.. Last chance to win Gold medal.. Pulls out at the last minute due to injury.. REALLY UNLUCKY.
I can't imagine having so much success all my life but never achieving that Gold Medal at the Olympics.. She said in an article from Straits Times that she doesn't regret this. I'm really happy for her though that she is still so determined and such a trooper even when big opportunities slip away.
Partly why I had to quit skating was cos this is bloody Singapore.. Study to live. I want to be a vet also.. Since academics can be trained and my fear of falling had gotten so much in the way I quit in the end... of course after I finally got a gold medal.
My gold medal isn't something worth bragging about cos I only had one competitor and my level was still junior not novice or anything yet. Still, I didn't get last anymore so I felt good.
Skating was really a challenge because I feared to fall.. I'm so structured and not really a risk taker when it comes to such physical things so naturally the books seem to be a better place.
School for me is really enjoyable because I'm studying what I love and care about.
I'm glad to have missed MK's performance because it makes me appreciate her way much more than what I would've if I saw her in person. I still have a chance to meet her next year!!
Anyway, I want to stretch my limits so I've decided to sign up for OBTaiwan. Something I have been quite undecided about. Hopefully I get chosen! Wish me luck! :D
